Västerås SK FK has now nine points after eight rounds in Allsvenskan. It's a good start for the team, but it feels like the point tally could have been much higher. I'm thinking mainly of the home matches against IF Elfsborg, BK Häcken and the latest opponent AIK. The GAIS match can be written off, as the performance was so poor that we didn't deserve to get any points from it. The feeling is that we should have gotten nine points out of nine possible in the three matches I mentioned. We had a 2-1 lead late in the match against Elfsborg, but failed to hold on to the lead beyond 90+1. Against Häcken, we had a seemingly secure 3-1 lead after a big performance by Mikkel Ladefoged, but sloppy mistakes in the defense and questionable substitutions made us drop to 3-3. Sunday's match against AIK was different, as we only had our 1-0 lead for a few minutes before the guests equalized on a free kick just before halftime. But still, the feeling after the final whistle was similar to the two previous matches. In principle, the entire second half was characterized by a good playing VSK that created chances against a foul-playing AIK that struggled to establish its own game. Above all, it was Jens Magnusson who had several good opportunities, even in the first half, but unfortunately his shot in the rib was the closest he came to a goal. Ladefoged was close a few times, without getting any clear chances. Mamadou Diagne almost got an open goal, but was pulled down (?) and couldn't put the ball in. Chances to make 2-1 and maybe even more were there, but the final quality was lacking to get the three points that the performance deserved. One thing that must be mentioned is the obvious mistake by the referee in the first half. Västerås-born Kevin Filling went brutally hard into a situation with our captain Frédéric Nsabiyumva, where he stamped the midfielder with his studs so that the foot bent. I can't think of it being intentional by Filling, but in the vicinity of the ball, it was anyway. The referee, who was close to the situation, showed the yellow card. A color that should have been red. Moreover, Filling was involved in a situation with goalkeeper Elis Jäger just a few minutes earlier, which should have given Filling his first yellow card there and then. Filling, who was substituted at halftime, should be extremely happy to get to play the last matches before the break. It was the third grossly incorrect decision we have received so far this season. One would like to think that it will start to even out at some point. The game we saw boded well and it was a big improvement against the three previous performances (BP, Hammarby and GAIS). Now we hope that this game will continue against Malmö FF and IFK Göteborg, and then develop further during the long break.
